#240 - TURTLE TALE

When my daughter, Patty, was about 2 1/2 or 3 we had a 10 gallon fish tank.  In that tank were several beautiful fan tailed guppies.  They were small, delicate and easy to raise with two children around.

Everything was fine, that is until we got out turtle.  He was the cutest little paddle foot about 1/2 inch in diameter.  Patty name him "Flumpy" because his shell was bumpy all over the top (bumpy).  When we first introduced him to the tank he would chase the guppies.  After a while we found out why he chased them...HE WANTED A BITE OF THEIR TAIL (and probably had designs on the entire guppy).  He was a very well fed turtle but, apparently he desired the real thing.

This is not the kind of turtle he was, but he looked
something like this.
It didn't take me long to decide that he wasn't going to eat those expensive guppies.  The whole idea of watching that part of nature take place in our den grossed me out.   However, Patty hastened his departure when, one day, I heard a scream coming from the den.  Patty, (who had been told MANY times to keep her fingers out of the fish tank) didn't listen (What? didn't listen!).  When I rounded the corner I found her there standing by the aquarium screaming bloody murder (and incidentally there was a small, determined turtle dangling from her pointy finger).

He had quite a grip and it took a toothpick to pry him off her finger.  I found a home for Flumpy that very day (No, it was not down the toilet!).

  5. Good Morning Karen - Thank you for the note you sent me. I am sad to hear we will not be having KT Mondays anymore, but do understand your need to move on. I am glad that I was just one of the people you could giggle with throughout your difficulties and the loss of your Dad. You do indeed need a break? but then I also read that you might pop in now and then to read a bit. I do understand about the commentary thing. Some days I am just to busy to comment, even though I read some of my Favs. I do not feel guilty about that. The way I look at it is I write a short post or post some photos and my number of readers (readers only) keeps going up, although I do not receive comments from all those readers - well, I am happy people have taken the time to read my post and am just happy they are READING cause my Mom always said READING is one of the great pleasures of life. I do hope you will pop in now and then - I really do not want to lose touch with you and would have written this in a regular email, but then I do not have your address. My email is saucykodz@live.ca, if you would like to keep in touch - best of luck with re-introducing yourself back into our world and great wishes to start back to subbing at school. Keep in touch KT and I will do same if you would like. Take care and thank you so much for the giggles you have given me. As you are re-inventing yourself, I have to say you will never be too far away from stories or adventures, because getting to know you I would say you are one of those blessed people that stories just happen to - I know because I am the same. 6. I'm sorry to hear that you're calling it quits for a bit, but I totally understand. Writing takes a lot of time, and sometimes you feel as if no one is listening. I get that. :-) Do what you need to do, and don't forget to come back when you can.

That's the beauty of the interwebs: the party is always on.

Very best of luck to you today and always,

    Pearl

  7. Hey lady. Your goodbye comment saddened me. I really hope you come back at some point. I've missed you horribly. However I know what you mean as I to am struggling to make it all work out the way I want to. I can't read everybodies blogs anymore as my eyes digress more and more. Oh well. You will be missed.

  8. You see? THIS is why I don't own reptiles. All of them would probably try killing me in the middle of the night!
